Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Document Production: Draft a wide array of legal documents essential to personal injury litigation, including initial pleadings such as summons, complaints, and answers. Prepare comprehensive discovery requests (e.g., interrogatories, requests for production of documents, requests for admission) and meticulous discovery responses. Assist in drafting various motions (e.g., motions for summary judgment, motions to compel, motions to dismiss), affidavits, subpoenas, settlement agreements, and other critical legal correspondence. Ensure all documents comply with federal and state court rules, local rules, and firm-specific formatting and quality standards.
  • Legal Case Law Research: Conduct thorough and precise legal research utilizing advanced legal databases, including Westlaw and LexisNexis. Analyze statutes, regulations, case precedents, and secondary sources relevant to personal injury law, torts, and civil procedure. Prepare detailed legal memoranda summarizing research findings, outlining potential legal arguments, identifying relevant legal issues, and providing strategic recommendations to litigation attorneys to inform case strategy. Stay current on changes in relevant case law and statutory developments.
  • Client Intake and Screening: Assist with the initial screening and evaluation of new client calls and inquiries. Gather essential factual information from prospective clients, conduct preliminary assessments of potential claims, and identify any conflicts of interest. Prepare concise and accurate summaries of findings for lead attorneys to facilitate informed decisions regarding case viability and acceptance. Maintain a professional, empathetic, and confidential demeanor while interacting with individuals who have experienced personal injury.
  • Case Management and Support: Provide comprehensive support in organizing and maintaining both physical and electronic case files, ensuring all documentation is accurately categorized, indexed, and readily accessible. Assist with critical trial preparation tasks, including the organization of exhibits, witness lists, deposition summaries, and trial binders. Support attorneys with calendaring, scheduling depositions, hearings, client meetings, and other key deadlines. Perform various administrative tasks to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the litigation team.
  • Fact Investigation & Evidence Gathering: Assist attorneys in gathering and reviewing crucial evidence, including medical records, police reports, accident reconstruction reports, expert witness reports, and other pertinent documents to build robust and compelling cases.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Possession of a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and eager to gain extensive practical experience in personal injury litigation.
  • Exceptional legal research skills, with demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Westlaw, LexisNexis, and other online legal research platforms.
