Job Description Laboratory Technician Coastal Gulf & International
About This Role
Coastal Gulf & International (CGI) is a dynamic and growing organization committed to excellence in providing critical analytical services and solutions across various industries. We are actively seeking a dedicated and meticulous Laboratory Technician to join our expanding team. This full-time, regular, non-exempt position is a critical individual contributor role, reporting directly to the Lab Manager. The successful candidate will be instrumental in performing routine laboratory tests that determine the chemical and physical characteristics of various samples, ensuring all results are accurate, high-quality, and delivered promptly. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong foundation in laboratory practices to contribute significantly to our mission of delivering reliable and precise analytical services, supporting our clients' operational integrity and compliance needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute a variety of routine analytical tests on diverse samples (e.g., water, soil, chemicals, raw materials, finished products) following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Prepare samples for analysis, which includes precise weighing, accurate dilution, careful extraction, and other preparatory techniques, ensuring proper labeling, sample integrity, and meticulous chain of custody documentation.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform minor preventative maintenance on a range of laboratory instrumentation, such as pH meters, spectrophotometers, titrators, balances, centrifuges, and other specialized equipment, always under close supervision.
- Record experimental data accurately and meticulously in laboratory notebooks, the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), or other designated digital or physical systems, ensuring all entries are legible, complete, and verifiable.
- Perform comprehensive quality control checks, analyze results against specified criteria, and identify any deviations, anomalies, or out-of-specification findings, reporting them promptly and clearly to the Lab Manager.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in strict adherence to all company safety protocols, chemical handling procedures, waste disposal guidelines, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Manage laboratory supplies and reagents, assisting with inventory control, stock rotation, and ordering processes to ensure adequate supplies are always available for uninterrupted operations.
- Assist in the accurate preparation of reagents and standard solutions, precisely calculating concentrations, ensuring proper labeling, and storing them according to safety and stability requirements.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs when authorized, escalating more complex issues or significant deviations to the Lab Manager for prompt resolution.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and procedures by providing observations, feedback, and suggestions for enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and safety.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure efficient workflow, timely project completion, and a cohesive work environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a closely related scientific field is highly preferred.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, either academic (e.g., extensive coursework with lab components) or industrial, is highly advantageous.
- Must be able to work a regular full-time schedule, typically Monday through Friday, with the potential for occasional overtime as business needs dictate.
- Demonstrated ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions precisely, consistently, and without deviation.
- Strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and adherence to all health and safety regulations.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, lift and move up to 25 pounds, and safely handle various laboratory chemicals and equipment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong observational skills for accurate data collection and anomaly detection.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities to prioritize tasks, manage multiple samples, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics for calculations and fundamental computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for accurate documentation, clear reporting, and effective team collaboration.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
