Job Description Business Controller, Strategic Resources (Metal & Energy) Speira GmbH

About This Role

Speira GmbH is a leading European aluminum rolling and recycling company, committed to driving sustainable growth and innovation within the industry. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, low-carbon aluminum solutions, and our ambitious growth and sustainability targets underscore our commitment to a greener future. As we continue to expand our operations and enhance our recycling capabilities, the strategic management of our core input factors—metal and energy—becomes paramount. These elements are not merely costs; they are critical levers for our pioneering recycling strategy and integral to our NEXT improvement program, which aims to optimize operational efficiency and achieve long-term sustainability goals.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Business Controller to take on a pivotal role within our finance organization, focusing specifically on Metal and Energy. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a tangible impact on Speira’s financial performance and strategic direction. You will be instrumental in providing financial leadership and analytical expertise, ensuring that our strategic initiatives related to metal procurement, energy consumption, and recycling efforts are financially sound and contribute directly to our overarching business objectives. This role is designed for a proactive professional who thrives on complex challenges and is eager to contribute to a company at the forefront of sustainable industrial practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • **Strategic Financial Planning & Analysis:** Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes specifically for metal procurement and energy consumption across all Speira operations. This includes developing robust financial models to support long-term strategic planning and short-term operational adjustments.
  • **Performance Management & Steering:** Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor, analyze, and report on the financial performance related to metal and energy efficiency, cost optimization, and recycling targets. Proactively identify variances, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to ensure targets are met or exceeded.
  • **Business Partnering & Stakeholder Collaboration:** Work in close partnership with a diverse range of stakeholders, including plant management, Business Unit leaders, procurement teams, operations, sustainability experts, and corporate finance. Provide critical financial insights and challenge assumptions to foster informed decision-making and drive cross-functional alignment.
  • **Support for Recycling Strategy & NEXT Program:** Play an essential role in steering Speira’s performance by providing financial analysis and insights that directly support the implementation and success of Speira’s recycling strategy and the NEXT improvement program. Evaluate the financial viability of new recycling technologies, energy efficiency projects, and other sustainability initiatives.
  • **Cost Control & Optimization:** Drive initiatives to optimize the cost structure related to metal inputs and energy usage. This involves detailed analysis of supply agreements, market trends, operational efficiencies, and investment opportunities that lead to cost reductions and value creation.
  • **Risk Management & Market Analysis:** Monitor global commodity markets for metal and energy, assess potential financial risks and opportunities, and provide strategic recommendations to mitigate adverse impacts and capitalize on favorable market conditions.
  • **Reporting & Communication:** Prepare comprehensive financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for various levels of management, including executive leadership. Communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely, translating data into actionable insights.
  • **Process Improvement:** Continuously seek opportunities to enhance controlling processes, tools, and methodologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and strategic relevance of financial reporting and analysis.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in business controlling, financial analysis, or a similar strategic finance role, preferably within a manufacturing, metals, energy, or commodities-intensive industry.
  • Proven track record of success in driving financial performance and supporting strategic initiatives in a complex, international environment.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP) and controlling methodologies.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and results-oriented mindset.
